What IS This...?

• This material aims to introduce programming and formal languages to laymen - non technical, non-IT, people
  • For instance professionals or students in areas such as:
    • formal sciences - mathematics, mathematical logic, mathematical statistics
      • computer science is a formal science...
    • human sciences - political science, sociology, psychology, physiology, ...
    • natural sciences - chemistry, mathematics, physics, statistics, ...
    • social sciences - criminology, economics, education, political science, sociology, ...
    • forensic sciences - digital forensics, forensic acccounting
• Prerequisites

  Prior knowledge: No formal prior knowledge of programming or formal languages is expected but you need to know how to use your computer... Mathematics and logic: basic knowledge is expected It certainly helps if you remember learning your natural language (like English) with grammar etc. A computer - Windows, Macintosh, or *NIX - based. Including tablet-style computers like Apple's iPad (the material has been tested on iPad). Web browser - any modern web browser should do JavaScript MUST be enabled in browser

What Is It NOT?

• It's not a course for learning programming JavaScript.
  • Yes, we're using JavaScript in the course but it's only to have an easy-to-use, conveniently accessible (you have it in your web browser) environment to play around in. And practice writing code snippets.
• It does neither aim to teach any other specific language - programming or other formal language (like HTML or SQL).
